The surrounding waters south of Cole Island provide a safe, sheltered anchorage for visiting boaters. There is good mud holding in depths of about 3 - 4 m or 10 - 13 feet. Consult Charts 3419 or 3313.
A dock was added in 2013 to provide improved access in support of conservation efforts. Visitors are welcome to use the dock from sun-up to sun-down. There is also a convenient kayak dock attached. No overnight tie-ups are permitted.

Entering/exiting Esquimalt Harbour: call-in VHF 10 or telephone 250 363-2160

Esquimalt Harbour is administered by the Department of National Defence. The harbour is open to the public within the limitations concerning controlled access zones.

All vessels upon entering or departing Esquimalt Harbour are requested to contact Queens Harbour Master Operations (QHM OPS) on marine VHF channel 10.
Inform them of the name and make of your vessel, whether you're arriving or exiting the harbour and your destination. If arriving by kayak or other small craft you can also telephone in at 250 363-2160.

There is a 100 meter security zone around all DND ships and facilities where civilian vessels are not permitted.
